Description

We currently have an opening for a postdoctoral researcher based in the Wells Wood lab in the University of Edinburgh. They will join part of cross institutional team involving PIs in the University of Manchester and the University of Bristol, as part of a consortium led by Prof Nigel Scrutton FRS. The aim of the project is to design novel photoactive enzymes with applications in green chemistry. The researcher recruited for this position will lead the development of computational tools and methods to understand known photoactive enzymes and design/engineer new ones. These methods will build on existing techniques that we have developed (Science 346, 485-8 (2014); Bioinformatics 33, 3043-50 (2017); Prot. Eng. Des. Sel. 34, gzab029 (2021); ChemBioChem 23, e2022003 (2022)). The aim of this project is not only to generate novel photoactive enzymes, but to deeply understand their mechanism. The technology that arises from this research will have clear applications in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry.
